Turtle Time

Today we made turtles.  They turned out so cute!  As a pre-requesite to the project, I read a couple turtle poems to the children and showed them pictures from the Internet of what turtles look like and where they live.
In my care, I have 3 toddlers that participate in our daily activity time.  The oldest is 2-and-a-half  which means I cut all the materials ahead of time.  The children use the glue and put the pieces where they think they go.  We talked about where the arms and legs were on the turtles we saw.  I try to let them do as much as they can by themself.  It amazes me how each child is so different and how much they really can do at such a young age.

Here is one of the poems I used:
                                                                   The Little Turtle
                                                   Author: Vachel Lindsay - 1879-1931
There was a little turtle.
He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle.
He climbed on the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn't catch me.
